Platinum Ring Information

As a precious metal used in jewelry and other items, platinum has been popular throughout much of recorded history. During the 18th century and beyond, jewelers began using it more and more often in the jewelry they made for their wealthy clients in the royal and aristocratic classes. (It was only something that the extremely wealthy could afford.) During WWII, the U.S. government declared that platinum could not be used in jewelry, so jewelers stopped using it altogether during that period and it became nearly impossible to find a platinum ring or any other type of platinum jewelry.
After that time, the ban was lifted and jewelers could begin using platinum again in the pieces that they created. The platinum ring once again became a highly desirable (and greatly coveted) item by many young couples seeking to use platinum in their engagement rings and wedding rings.
A durable white metal that is not only beautiful but also does not tarnish at all, people greatly appreciate the way platinum sets off precious gemstones such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Even though it is nowhere near as expensive as it once was when it was only accessible to the wealthiest of customers, platinum is still quite expensive and often retails for twice the cost of the similar looking precious metal, white gold. For this reason, platinum has retained much of its status as the most glamorous and sought after of all the precious metals. In other words, a platinum ring is still considered a “high status” (and therefore highly desirable) item by many people.
However, the status that many people associate with a platinum ring is actually not the best reason to buy one. The best reason to buy one is the fact that it will last you a lifetime (and beyond) without tarnishing, changing color or breaking. These are the factors that make buying a platinum ring well worth the initial investment.
